Southern cuisine with flair: Union Local 613.
To my surprise, I was able to make a reservation at the eleventh hour on a Friday evening at this Somerset hot spot. In order to optimize seating capacity, servers will sit you just about anywhere (communal seating makes for a very interesting dining experience.)
My drink of choice, a dirty martini, came with jalapeño stuffed olives and was served in a tiny mason jar which hinted at the type of cuisine this restaurant offers: sophisticated, southern soul food. The menu, although small, offers some mouth watering southern dishes such as fried chicken, fried green tomatoes and lousiana catfish but the real seller is the selection of sides you get to pair with your main. Cornbread with bourbon brown butter and string beans with almonds are their most popular, however I would highly recommend ordering up a side of their cheddar and roasted garlic grits (the creaminess of this dish pairs perfectly with their fried chicken). Check it out for yourself!
